Investing in the growth of our leadership of tomorrow

Insurance is fundamentally a people business. That means hiring, retaining, and developing the best people – which also means nurturing our top talents.

Investing in the growth of our leadership of tomorrow

That’s why back in 2010, Ageas took the decision to invest in the development of the Ageas Leadership Programme (ALP) targeting top talent from across the Group from different cultures and backgrounds but with something in common – the potential and ability to further grow as leaders within a short timeframe.

Each year, some 30 participants are brought into the programme to learn more about their personal strengths (and weaknesses) and the impact they have on others. They benefit from personal and peer coaching, and they learn more about strategy by connecting with Ageas’s top management and through exposure to external experts and academics. The team is challenged to run a specific business project, backed by the sponsorship of the Ageas Business Committee. And many of the recommendations coming out of these projects have been integrated into the business.

ALP brings fresh thinking to the topic of Gen AI

This year the teams were tasked with working on a Gen AI related project in parallel with the project team lead by Tech & Data. Participants were asked to present recommendations on how Gen AI could improve Ageas’s operational efficiency; how it could enhance the customer experience; the impact Gen AI has on talent management and training; and how Gen AI can support the distribution of products on digital platforms.

More than 260 people have already ‘graduated’ from the ALP since it started, with around a quarter of those achieving career promotions following their participation. We know that the experience and the opportunities the ALP created for participants in the past left quite an impact:

  • “For me, the relationships that are built with fellow ALP-participants are there for the long-term. They are people that I know, that are now part of my network, people I can reach out to for advice.”
  • “A really thought-provoking experience, and one which pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged me.”
  • “Normally I have concerns around training programmes as they are at times difficult to link to our daily challenges... ALP tackled this part extremely well.”
